About the Venture Salon Conference

The Venture Salon is our quarterly conference that showcases select technology companies and presents an exclusive analysis of the venture industry in Southern California. In partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Larta presents updates on the Sand Dollar Report: a regional analysis of MoneyTree venture capital data. The PricewaterhouseCoopers MoneyTree Survey is designed to take the cleanest measure of 'core' investments in venture-backed companies in the United States, thereby providing reliable, meaningful statistics on the venture industry.

This event will be open to accredited investors only. It serves as a convening point for investors and technologists in the Southern California region. The Venture Salon will not only provide exclusive knowledge on the venture industry, but also offer an environment for networking and community building.

January 2001
On January 19, Larta hosted its quarterly Venture Salon at the Microsoft offices in Santa Monica. Over a dozen leading venture capitalists spent the afternoon hearing presentations from seven cutting-edge startups. Technologies ranged from laboratory innovations in nanostructured materials and wireless network systems to the next generation in language translation software, secured digital distribution, and database infrastructure software for the travel industry. Microsoft's new Xbox "wowed" the group with a special presentation at the finale. "As a VC, the opportunity to see a group of high quality companies in such a concentrated period of time is extremely valuable," said Jeffrey Starr of Mission Ventures. "It was clear that Larta's due diligence and coaching filtered out the irrelevant fluff that many entrepreneurs pitch. The key elements of these companies were nicely packaged in the presentations and the industry sectors represented were of primary interest to the venture capital community right now."
